in. was founded in early 2018 by Lee Cumberlidge and Elena Vereker, with the vision to create a space where they could love working, eating, drinking and enabling great things to happen. They understand the power of working collaboratively by creating working environments that are productive, creative and inspiring. Their award-winning company Insite Arts, of which they are co-directors, has its home at in. Studio. With a background in producing events and festivals, they have made in. Studio + Cafe a space that is more than just a place to work.
Elena is a director and creative producer of large scale, site-specific events, image-based and aerial performance. Co-founder and Director of Insite Arts, Elena graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in 1997. She has worked with companies and festivals in Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane.
Heading up Melbourne Fringe Festival (2004-2005) she created several high-profile events for the festival and for the Commonwealth Games Cultural Festival (2006). As the inaugural Creative Producer for Federation Square she directed and produced numerous works, including the multi-award winning Advent Calendar (06, 07, 08) and other international collaborations. In 2009 she was the Creative Producer for the outdoor program for the Brisbane Festival. She is currently a Director for Insite Arts, creating site-specific works nationally and internationally.
Lee is the principal and founding director of Insite Arts, which produces a range of projects, including international collaborations and large scale arts events. With Lee at the helm Insite Arts has devised and produced events such as the World Theatre Festival with Brisbane Powerhouse (2009, 2010), and MONA FOMA in Hobart (2009-2018) which won a Helpmann Award for Best Contemporary Music Festival in 2012, 2017 and 2018. Insight Arts also produced the Opening of MONA in 2011, and the Gala Opening Concerts for Hamer Hall in 2012. Insight Arts is renowned for supporting the works of several artists and companies such as Fleur Elise Noble, Meryl Tankard and the Australian Art Orchestra and touring them to presentations all around the world.
Prior to Insite Arts, Lee worked for Arts Projects Australia (APA) in both Adelaide and Melbourne as an Executive Producer on various projects, including the Cultural Programs for Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games and the 2007 FINA World Swimming Championships. Both festivals presented hundreds of free performances across street theatre, circus, music, and dance from local, national and international artists. Festival, Melbourne 2006 attracted 2 million attendances over 10 days and won a Helpmann Award for Best Special Event. With APA Lee was also a producer on WOMADelaide (1999, 2001, 2003), the Australian Performing Arts Market (2000, 2002), and several international productions touring to various major festivals and venues in the Asia Pacific region.
Community and collaboration are the foundations of our culture at in. Studio. We offer a way to build relationships based on shared interests, creativity and knowledge. Our members are the heart of our space. We have a number of independent professionals that work together and separately who come to work, learn, play, and collaborate.
